002 Ast Stool

Made with an eye for strength and simplicity, Vaaarnii's Ast Stool by Dimitri Bähler is intended as an essential piece of furniture. The stool is sturdy but compact, constructed from fat sections of solid pine softened by gently curved edges.

A stool is the most archetypal and humble of vernacular objects; easily made and heavily used. Ast is just that. Its an extremely tough and versatile piece of furniture to be used as a side table, bench or seat.

The surfaces of the 002 Ast Stool turn the spotlight to its characterful material, Finnish pine. As a result of the naturally occurring oils and resins, pine will change colour as it ages. Heartwood and sapwood will start aging at a different speed resulting in a gorgeous and lively grain. The color will gradually even out and mature to a beautiful honey tone over the course of years. 

Although Finnish pine is the hardest soft wood one can find, scratches and dents are bound to be expected depending on the use. Vaarnii encourages you to embrace these imperfections and see them as characterful signs of aging.
