We're happy to introduce you to the work of Estudio Vernís, a young workshop from the Alicante region, that celebrates the unexpectedness of clay and wood-firing. In the rural area of southern Spain, the studio creates timeless and ever-evolving ceramics designed to be functional and honest.
View the collection and discover some of our favorites like the perfectly imperfect Deep Bowls, Handless Mug and Palma Candle Holder or read on for some insights about their process.
The studio describes wood firing as a unique process blending effort and craftsmanship to create surfaces with unpredictable textures and imperfections, making each piece one-of-a-kind.
Every piece undergoes a transformative process in the wood-fired kiln in the studio's backyard, enhancing its unique character. Fired twice, first at 1000ºC for the bisque, then at 1300ºC for the glaze. The fuel used, is sourced from industrial remnants in the nearby towns, mainly pine wood.
Their
tableware collection is used in restaurants and cafés across Spain and we're excited to now bring it to the Netherlands for you to discover.
